Your October Watchlist Is Solved: 31 Nights, 31 Movies, Zero Excuses

Every horror fan knows the feeling. It's October 1st, the pumpkin spice is flowing, and you swear this is the year you'll watch a scary movie every single day until Halloween. Then life happens, you fall behind by the 9th, and suddenly you're cramming triple features on the 30th like a college student pulling an all-nighter.

Not this year. We've mapped out all 31 nights, starting slow with deep cuts and building to a certified classic on the big night itself. Each entry comes with where to stream it, why it earns its slot, and a backup option depending on how much you actually want to sleep in October.

Ease Into It: October 1–7

October 1 — The Battery (Tubi): Two zombie-apocalypse guys bicker their way through New England on a shoestring budget. It's the perfect low-key kickoff — moody, character-driven, and proof you don't need a studio to make dread. Mild alternative: Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (Prime Video).

October 2 — Resolution (Tubi): A strange, talky indie about a cabin and something watching. Great for a Tuesday energy. Spicier: Sinister (Netflix).

October 3 — Lake Mungo (Shudder): A fake documentary about grief that will quietly wreck you. Milder: The Sixth Sense (Max).

October 4 — You're Next (Starz): Home invasion with a twist and one of horror's best final girls. Friday night energy, delivered.

October 5 — The Descent (Max): Spelunking, cave creatures, and claustrophobia for days. Saturday deserves a full-throttle pick.

October 6 — Hocus Pocus (Disney+): Sunday reset. You know the words. Light the candle anyway.

October 7 — A Dark Song (Shudder): A slow-burn occult ritual film from Ireland that rewards patience. Heavier: Hereditary (Max).

Building Momentum: October 8–14

October 8 — Creep (Netflix): Found footage with Mark Duplass at his most unsettling. Barely 80 minutes — perfect weeknight.

October 9 — The Void (Shudder): Practical-effects Lovecraftian madness. It looks like a lost '80s VHS in the best way.

October 10 — Trick 'r Treat (Max): The anthology that basically invented modern Halloween-movie tradition. Sam deserves his night.

October 11 — Mandy (Prime Video): Nicolas Cage, a chainsaw, and a synth score. Friday night, lights off, no notes.

October 12 — The Thing (Peacock): Still the greatest creature feature ever made. Host a viewing party for this one.

October 13 — Kwaidan (Max): Sunday calls for something beautiful and eerie — this Japanese anthology of ghost stories is both.

October 14 — Terrified (Shudder): Argentine hauntings that hit like a slap. Gentler: Beetlejuice (Max).

The Stretch Run: October 15–23

October 15 — Noroi: The Curse (Shudder): The gold standard of found footage. Start it early; you'll want the lights on after.

October 16 — May (Tubi): A lonely woman, a bad date, and a very specific craft project. Deeply weird, deeply underrated.

October 17 — Scream (Paramount+): Meta, funny, and genuinely scary. Consider this your mid-month palate cleanser before things get rough.

October 18 — Talk to Me (Prime Video): The A24 possession hit that lives up to the hype. Friday night crowd-pleaser with teeth.

October 19 — REC (Prime Video): Barcelona, a news crew, an apartment building gone wrong. One of the scariest endings ever filmed.

October 20 — The Nightmare Before Christmas (Disney+): Even hardcore horror heads need a breather. This counts. We don't make the rules.

October 21 — The Autopsy of Jane Doe (Netflix): A father-and-son coroner duo vs. an unexplained corpse. Two actors, one morgue, maximum tension.

October 22 — Kuroneko (Max): Black-and-white Japanese ghost revenge from 1968. Hauntingly gorgeous.

October 23 — It Follows (Max): That droning score plus a monster that only walks. Why does that work so well? Watch and find out.

Final Week Fright Fest: October 24–31

October 24 — The Conjuring (Max): James Wan's haunted-house blueprint. Start the big finales with a banger.

October 25 — Hell House LLC (Tubi): Found footage in an abandoned haunted hotel. Perfect timing — haunted attractions are on your brain anyway.

October 26 — The Exorcist (Peacock): Still the heavyweight champ. Saturday night, full commitment, no phone-checking.

October 27 — Coraline (Max): Stop-motion unease for the whole household. Sunday, but make it sinister.

October 28 — Night of the Living Dead (Tubi): Public domain, eternal, and free. George Romero's black-and-white masterpiece belongs in every October.

October 29 — Suspiria (Prime Video): The 1977 original — a color-saturated Italian fever dream. Tamer: Ghostbusters (Max).

October 30 — Halloween (1978, AMC+): The night before the night before. John Carpenter's score alone puts you in the zone.

October 31 — Halloween (again, or Hocus Pocus, or whatever your heart wants): Halloween night is for tradition. Rewatch the Carpenter classic, double-feature it with Scream, or let the kids pick. You've earned it — 31 for 31.

A Few House Rules

Availability shifts month to month, so double-check your streaming app before committing — titles drift between platforms faster than Michael Myers drifts after Laurie Strode. And if you miss a day? Don't quit. Horror isn't homework. Stack the weekend, double up, and keep the porch light orange until Thanksgiving. Happy haunting, fiends.
